The Government made a crucial decision for people over 50, since they will no longer have to wait six but four months to receive their booster dose of the covid-19 vaccine. The measure will apply both to schemes made up of two doses and to those of only one.

The type of vaccine they will receive for the third puncture will be different from the initial scheme, based on the recommendation given by the Government Vaccine Advisory Committee.

In the last hours, President Iván Duque announced the opening of the group of people over 50 years of age to receive the third injection and this Friday, at the Unified Vaccination Command Post, the Minister of Health, Fernando Ruiz, explained how the new measure that came into force on November 19 without prior scheduling.

"What he seeks is that for the December festivities the population over 50 years of age is adequately protected, with greater security in those festivities, where intergenerational groups come together," Ruiz said.

The minister also stated that the recommendation is to apply that third dose with a heterologous vaccine, that is, a different vaccine from the ones he used for the first two doses, "this gives it greater protection," he said.
